Today, as I was reading about self-confidence in business, I got inspired to open up a conversation about this topic. Confidence is crucial in business, but it’s also something that can trip up even the best of us. So, let’s dive into why we might struggle with this idea and how we can push through those doubts.
Why We Sometimes Lack Confidence in Business
Let’s be real here. Confidence doesn’t always come naturally, especially in business, and I know I’m not alone in feeling this way. There are so many reasons why we might hesitate to fully step into our greatness. Here are a few common ones:
- Fear of Failure: Maybe we worry about not hitting the mark, and that keeps us from even trying.
- Fear of Success: Yes, success can be intimidating, too! Sometimes we worry about the responsibility or expectations that come with it.
- Not Enough Time: Life is busy, and finding dedicated time for our dreams can feel impossible.
- Worry About What Others Think: We get concerned about being judged, misunderstood, or even criticized.
These fears are often the reasons we procrastinate, putting off that next big move in our business. But let me tell you, these thoughts don’t have to hold us back! Confidence is a muscle, and the more we work on it, the stronger it gets.
So, What Can We Do When We Feel the Fear?
One of the best ways to move past fear is to plan. Planning is powerful because it puts us in control. Here are four practical, confidence-boosting strategies to consider:
1. Start Planning – And Start Small
There’s power in making plans, even if they’re just small steps. When you start putting your ideas down on paper (or in your favorite notes app), you begin to take ownership of them. It’s like saying to yourself, “This is real, and I’m serious about it.”
Tip: Study others who have succeeded in your field. Seeing someone else accomplish what you’re working toward can be a huge motivator. Find a few role models who inspire you and study their journeys. Remember, they all started somewhere too.

2. Set Aside Dedicated Time to Work on Your Business
I know firsthand how hard it can be to carve out time for a business when you’re balancing family, a job, and everything else life throws at you. But here’s the thing: we have to make the time. This isn’t about having more hours in the day; it’s about committing to a consistent routine that you can manage.
Whether you’re in the early stages or already knee-deep in production, you need time to think, plan, and execute. It could be 15 minutes a day or an hour every Sunday night—whatever works best for you. Maybe it’s before the kids wake up, during your lunch break, or after everyone’s asleep. Just make it happen.
Here’s a Tip: Try blocking off a specific time each week for business work. Consistency is a confidence booster on its own!
3. Push Negative Thoughts to the Curb
Here’s a reality check: no matter what others think, this is your business. Don’t let people’s opinions weigh you down. If you’re excited about your business idea and it’s meaningful to you, then go for it. Imagine the impact you can make, the lives you could touch, and the goals you could achieve if you just let those negative voices fade.
Take stock of what this business could mean for you and the ones you love. Is this venture something you’re genuinely passionate about? Do you have a trusted friend or mentor who believes in you? If so, focus on these positives, push those doubts away, and keep it moving.
4. Embrace Your Successes – Yes, Even the Small Ones!
Celebrate yourself! Every small win counts. Maybe it’s completing that first blog post, finally launching your website, or getting positive feedback from a client. These victories deserve a moment of recognition because they’re all part of building your business.
Embracing these successes creates momentum, making it easier to keep going even when times get tough. By celebrating, you’re telling yourself, I can do this. This confidence will carry over to your next steps, encouraging you to dream even bigger.
Building Confidence Takes Time, but You’ve Got This
Self-confidence doesn’t develop overnight, and it’s natural to feel a little shaky at times. But by making plans, dedicating time, ignoring negativity, and celebrating the wins along the way, you can strengthen your confidence in business.
You’ve got everything you need to make your dream happen. The key is to keep showing up, even when doubts arise. Self-confidence in business is a journey, but the more you practice, the stronger you’ll become.
