Hey there! It’s Demetria here, and I want to chat with you about something close to my heart—being a mompreneur. If you’re anything like me, you’re balancing a lot: raising kids, running a household, managing a business, and trying to squeeze in a little “me time” somewhere in the mix. It’s not always easy, but I truly believe it’s possible to thrive in all these areas with the right mindset and strategies.
Over the years, I’ve learned some valuable lessons as a mom, homeschooler, wife, and entrepreneur. Today, I’m excited to share some of the insights that have helped me overcome obstacles and find my groove in this crazy yet rewarding journey of mompreneurship.
Embracing Your Identity: Celebrate Who You Are
Let’s start with one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned: accepting myself. This was a game-changer for me. So many of us hold back on our dreams because we think we’re not good enough or we don’t have what it takes. Sound familiar?
Here’s the thing: your quirks, your passions, your imperfections—they’re what make you you. They’re also what make your business unique and relatable. When I finally embraced all the parts of who I am, I found it so much easier to connect with my audience and build a brand that feels authentic.
So take a moment to celebrate yourself. Your journey, your strengths, even your missteps—they all play a role in shaping your success.
Shifting the Focus: How Can You Serve?
Once I got comfortable in my own skin, the next step was shifting the focus from myself to others. It’s so easy to get caught up in our own fears and doubts, but when you flip the script and think about how you can serve others, everything changes.
Your business has the power to solve problems and meet needs in ways only you can. I started asking myself, “What does my audience really need, and how can I help them?” This mindset shift not only grew my business but also gave me a deeper sense of purpose.
Stepping Outside Your Comfort Zone
Now, let’s talk about the hard stuff: stepping out of your comfort zone. I’ll be honest—this one took some work for me. I’m naturally introverted, so things like public speaking and video creation felt terrifying at first. But guess what? Growth doesn’t happen in the safe zone.
I started small, recording short videos for practice and speaking at small events (but mostly speaking online and on podcasts). Each little step built my confidence, and now I actually enjoy putting myself out there (most of the time!). Remember, every time you push past your comfort zone, you’re paving the way for something bigger and better.
Overcoming Shyness: Finding Your Confidence
Speaking of stepping out, let’s dive deeper into overcoming shyness. If you’ve ever felt paralyzed by fear at the thought of presenting yourself to an audience, trust me, you’re not alone. I’ve been there! But here’s the good news: confidence is a skill you can build.
Start in a safe space—record a video for yourself, rehearse in front of a close friend, or practice speaking in small groups. Over time, those baby steps add up. And remember, your message is important. Someone out there needs to hear what only you can say.
Ignoring the Noise: No Comparisons Allowed
Raise your hand if you’ve ever scrolled through social media and felt like you weren’t doing enough. Yep, I’ve been guilty of it too. But here’s the truth: comparing yourself to others is a fast track to burnout.
Instead of measuring yourself against someone else’s highlight reel, focus on your own journey. Celebrate your wins—no matter how small—and keep your eyes on your goals. You are uniquely equipped for your own path, and that’s worth protecting.
Taking Action: One Step at a Time
Let’s get real for a moment: all the ideas in the world won’t help if you’re not taking action. I’ve learned that the secret to progress is simply starting.
Pick one thing you can do today—whether it’s setting up a website, posting on social media, or reaching out to a potential client—and just go for it. Don’t worry about perfection. The momentum you build by taking small, consistent steps will carry you further than you think.
Balancing Roles: Compartmentalizing Is Key
Now, let’s talk about one of the biggest challenges for us mompreneurs: balancing all the roles we play. I’ve found that compartmentalizing is a lifesaver. When it’s work time, I focus on work. When it’s family time, I’m present with my kids and husband.
This isn’t always easy, but creating a schedule that reflects your priorities can make a world of difference. Set boundaries for yourself, and honor them. It’s all about being intentional with your time and energy.
Seeking Support: You’re Not Alone
Here’s a little reminder: you don’t have to do it all by yourself. For the longest time, I thought I had to be Superwoman, handling everything on my own. Spoiler alert: that’s not sustainable!
Whether it’s hiring help, joining a supportive community, or leaning on friends and family, building a strong support system can lighten your load and keep you focused on what matters most.
Keeping First Things First: Prioritize You
Your business is important, but so are you. One thing I’ve learned is that I can’t pour from an empty cup. That’s why I prioritize my well-being—spiritually, mentally, and physically.
For me, that looks like starting each day with prayer and quiet time, fueling my body with healthy food, and carving out moments for rest and exercise. When I take care of myself, I’m better equipped to handle the demands of both my business and my family.
Embracing Challenges: Staying Positive
Finally, let’s talk about mindset. Challenges are part of the journey, but they don’t have to derail you. I’ve faced my fair share of setbacks, but I’ve learned to view them as opportunities to grow and learn.
Stay positive, celebrate your resilience, and remind yourself why you started. You’ve got what it takes to make your dreams a reality, and I’m here cheering you on every step of the way.
