Listen to “74. Creating Content Your Audience Will Love” on Spreaker.
Why Awesome Content Matters
Your content isn’t just about pushing out posts or recording endless videos. It’s about crafting valuable, engaging, and authentic material that speaks directly to your audience’s needs and desires. Whether you’re blogging, podcasting, or running a YouTube channel, your content should inspire, inform, and connect with your ideal audience in a way that feels natural and genuine.
But before we jump into the how-to, I want to remind you that if you’re feeling overwhelmed with your content strategy, I’m offering free 20-minute coffee chats (or pay-what-you-can sessions). This is a cozy, virtual coffee date where we can brainstorm your content strategy and tackle your biggest content questions. Just visit my Buy Me a Coffee page to grab your spot!
Now, let’s get into the juicy details of creating content that your audience will truly love.
Step 1: Know Your Audience Inside and Out
One of the biggest mistakes I made early in my content journey was trying to speak to everyone. Let me tell you, that strategy doesn’t work. Instead, you need to get laser-focused on your ideal audience.
Identify Your Ideal Audience
Think about who you’re really speaking to. For me, I focus on:
- Women entrepreneurs
- Solopreneurs
- Busy moms juggling business and family
- Faith-based entrepreneurs
- Homeschooling moms for my other brand
Your audience might look different, but the key is to define them clearly.
Go Beyond Demographics
It’s not just about age, gender, or location. You need to dig into psychographics—what are their biggest struggles? What are their dreams? What keeps them up at night? Understanding their pain points allows you to craft content that truly serves them.
Use Analytics to Refine Your Audience
I regularly check my Google Analytics and YouTube analytics to see who’s engaging with my content. By analyzing their age, location, and interests, I get a clearer picture of who my audience is. If you’re not already doing this, I highly recommend taking a deep dive into your own analytics to better understand your audience.
Step 2: Find Your Unique Voice
Your voice is your secret sauce! In the crowded digital space, authenticity is everything.
Embrace Your Uniqueness
When I first started, I tried to emulate other creators. But you know what? My audience could tell it wasn’t me. The moment I stopped trying to be like everyone else and leaned into my natural voice, my content became more engaging, and my audience responded to it.
Keep It Real
People want to connect with you, not a polished, overly scripted version of you. Show up as your true self, share your real experiences, and speak to your audience as if you’re having a one-on-one conversation with them.
Step 3: Engage in a Two-Way Conversation
Content creation isn’t just about broadcasting—it’s about engaging with your audience.
Ask Questions
I make it a point to ask my audience what they need. Whether it’s through comments on my videos, Instagram polls, or direct messages, I’m always gathering feedback. For example, if someone thanks me for a helpful video, I ask, What would you like me to create next?
Conduct Surveys and Polls
I’ve also conducted surveys to better understand my audience’s pain points. This feedback loop is gold—it helps me create content that truly serves my community.
Step 4: Create Value-Driven Content
Awesome content is all about delivering value. If your content doesn’t solve a problem, inspire action, or entertain in some way, it’s time to rework your strategy.
Focus on Your Audience’s Pain Points
Before you create a post, ask yourself:
- What problem does this solve?
- How does this make my audience’s life easier?
- Will this help them achieve their goals?
If your content doesn’t check these boxes, go back to the drawing board.
Be Clear, Concise, and Actionable
Most of my audience members are busy women balancing multiple responsibilities. They don’t have time to sift through fluff. That’s why I focus on creating clear, concise, and actionable content.
Step 5: Stay Consistent
Consistency is the key to growth. Whether you post once a week or three times a week, stick to a schedule that you can maintain.
Create a Content Calendar
A content calendar helps you stay organized and ensures that you’re posting consistently. Plan your topics in advance, batch-create content when possible, and use scheduling tools to streamline your workflow.
Repurpose Your Content
Don’t let great content go to waste! Repurpose your blog posts into Instagram captions, turn YouTube videos into blog articles, and convert podcast episodes into bite-sized social media clips. This maximizes your reach without requiring extra effort.
Step 6: Analyze and Adjust
Your content strategy isn’t set in stone. It’s an evolving process that requires regular tweaking.
Monitor Your Performance
Check your analytics to see what’s working and what’s not. If a certain type of content performs exceptionally well, create more of it! If something isn’t resonating, don’t be afraid to pivot.
Test Different Formats
Maybe your audience loves short-form videos more than long-form blog posts. Or maybe they prefer deep-dive articles over quick tips. Experiment with different formats to see what resonates most with your community.
Final Thoughts: You’ve Got This!
Creating fabulous content takes time, effort, and a lot of trial and error, but the payoff is worth it. When you focus on serving your audience with value-driven, authentic, and engaging content, you’ll start to see real growth in your business.
